CoPoRI is carried out by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) / EU Bureau of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (project coordinator) together with the partner German Electron-Synchrotron (DESY). In order to ensure coherency between the project activities and ESFRI’s objectives, ESFRI is embedded in the overall project structure and linked in by a mentor team composed of one representative each of the ESFRI Executive Board (EB), the ESFRI Forum, the ESFRI Implementation Working Group, and the European Commission. The ESFRI Chair is part of the Consortium Management Board.
German Aerospace Centre (DLR) / PT-DLR /EU-Bureau of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
The German Aerospace Centre is the national centre for aerospace, energy and transportation research of the Federal Republic of Germany. It has multiple locations throughout Germany. Its headquarters are located in Cologne. It is engaged in a wide range of research and development projects in national and international partnerships. The EU-Bureau (EUB) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is located at the Project Management Agency of the German Aerospace Centre (PT-DLR).
The EUB hosts the German secretariat of the current ESFRI Chair, Dr.-Ing. Beatrix Vierkorn-Rudolph, Deputy Director of the BMBF. The EUB also co-ordinates the German network of National Contact Points (NCPs), hosts inter alia the NCP for “Research Infrastructures” and provides assistance to the BMBF in all FP7 matters..
The Project Management Agency of the German Aerospace Centre (PT-DLR) coordinates CoPoRI and thus leads Work Packages 1 (Management), 2 (Socio-economic impact) and 4 (Communication & dissemination of project output).
Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY)
The German Electron-Synchrotron is one of the world leading laboratories for particle physics and photon science. DESY has long-standing experience in the design and operation of accelerators for high energy physics and synchrotron radiation research. DESY is operating research infrastructures since 1960 and currently the synchrotrons DORIS III and PETRA III as well as the free electron laser (FEL) FLASH. All three installations are operating independently for approximately 2200 synchrotron radiation and 200 FEL users per year.
DESY has coordinated three preparatory phase projects for the ESFRI Roadmap projects EuroFEL, European XFEL and ILC Higrade. DESY is a leading partner in the preparatory phase projects of CTA and TIARA newly admitted on the ESFRI Roadmap 2010.
DESY leads Work Package 3 (Consultation platform/best practices).
